INTEGRAL ENVELOPES WORKSHOP 2.0 SCHOLARSHIPS


Workshop integrated into the Master’s Advanced Design and Digital Architecture
The participants will gain a new perspective on the creation of forms and spaces through knowledge of the material and its “intelligent” behaviour, complemented by learning Grasshopper, a software package that allows visual programing and advanced modelling of these forms and structures.

This workshop will equip students to produce truly innovative designs in terms of material, form and behaviour, to the point of creating designs that are able to adapt to their environment. Ultimately, we will learn that the boundary between natural and artificial (or that produced by humans) has been redrawn from the perspective of biomimetic engineering.

FINAL JURY ADDA 2012

The modern definition of artificial intelligence is "the study and design of intelligent agents." We say that an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that increase their chances of success. In computer science, the "evolutionary computation" is a sub field of artificial intelligence. This is the general term for several computational techniques that are based in some way in the evolution of biological life in the natural world. Of course the future of computational processes will by fully involved on the "evolutionary computation", for their clear utility in the selection and optimization processes.

This will enable us to produce designs and architecture that are not only totally innovative in material, form and behaviour, but also able to adapt to their environment.

The PARA-site pavilion is the first one of its characteristics produced and designed in Catalunya. Both the research shown in this book and the book itself have been carried out at the ELISAVA Master in Advanced Design and Digital Architecture (ADDA) at the graduate program BioDesign Laboratory.

On this research process, we work by experimenting and learning from the material, applying the various techniques of form finding. This new approach to the creation of form and program through knowledge of material, and of its “intelligent” behaviour, complemented by the use of parametric software and advanced modelling, will enable us to produce designs that are not only totally innovative in material, form and behaviour, but also able to adapt to their environment. In short, we will learn that the limit between natural and artificial (or man-made) has been reconsidered from the perspective of biomimetic engineering.

By this edition we will show five team’s research and five real scale interactive structural membrane prototypes.

TIME BASED FORMATIONS _BIODELAB 2011 OPENING WORKSHOP

After a period of preparation and resetting parts of the research Program, ADDA will start the following 11th of October. The new course will begin with a workshop TIME BASED FORMATIONS driven by Jordi Truco (ELISAVA ADDA), that has already started in parallel at school of Architecture University of California Berkeley also directed by Jordi Truco, who is a Eshering Visiting Professor at UCBerkeley.

The results of the two studios of the two sides of the Atlantic will be put together in a new publication from the same ADDA series as ParaSite is published.

ADDA comes back with a lot of news and resources.
ELISAVA has updated its resources and facilities with a new Rapid Prototyping Machine, a Lasser Cutter and a CNC Milling Machine.

The objective of the studio is to develop parametrically defined material systems that are structure and skin at the same time. The development of these systems will originate from the definition of their simplest constituents integrating manufacturing constraints and assembly logics in parametric components. The initially simple components will be proliferated into larger more complex system with differential density and permeability. The exploration towards structure as a performative skin and skin as a differentiated structure is divided into sixth phases of work. Groups consisting of two students will develop physically and digitally proliferated component systems.

PARA-Site True Scale Prototype at CONSTRUMAT 16 to 21 of May









ELISAVA_ADDA is very pleased to announce the presentation of the real scale responsive prototype PARA-Site. PARA-Site it is an architectonical design based on the logics of time based formations through material intelligence.
We can say that we are learning to view what we design as a living system, with the ability to react to an also living environment and adapt to it. Consequently, we can think about designs that feel, observe, listen, react, propose, learn and interact.

The prototype will be exhibit at CONSTRUMAT (Barcelona Construction Exhibition) from 16 to 21 of May at Pavilion 3.

We will be pleased to show you a demo on the interaction and the motion capacities of the PARA-Site.
